Latin American Cinema:.

When talking about Latin American Cinema, probably the most famous movie is a Mexican one directed by Emilio Frenández named ¨El Indio¨. During the 1940´s this movie became fairly well known. Because of the development of Mexican Cinema this period is also called ´The Golden Age´, with actors like María Félix, Jorge Negrete, Carmen Sevilla, Pedro Armendaris and Mario Moreno known from ¨Cantinflas¨.

Not only Mexico was successful in the movie industry. Argentina also had a period of relatively success as well as Brasil. Brasilian directors Glauber Rocha and Nelson Pereira  dos Santos reflected social reality in their movies.

In Cuba the cinema was totally determined by the Revolution. The most well known Cuban directors are Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Fresa y Chocolate, 1993) and Humberto Solás. In the case of Chili Miguel Litín is a known director.

When you consider Peruvian cinema there is one director who has some international awareness: Francisco Lombardi. Lombardi has been producing movies since 1977. The majority of his movies were based on real facts and some of his movies were based on novels. One of these movies is ¨No se lo digas nadie¨ (1998). The movie was based on the novel of the Peruvian writer Jaime Bayli and is about a homosexual boy that discovers his sexuality in a hypocritical, upper-middle class atmosphere in Lima.
